Coronation gin is a London Dry produced in a similar way to Silent Pool. The botanical recipe was designed with King Charles and the English countryside in mind. We wanted to include as many British botanicals as we could, therefore we built the base recipe around English angelica root and coriander seed. This base was built upon by flowers from English gardens. Floral notes of chamomile, rose and lavender make up a perfect blend of subtle freshness in the top notes. Inspired by the citrus notes of the coriander seed we postured upon all things British and on thought kept coming back to us, Tea. More specifically earl grey tea, the hint of bergamot orange would be the citrusy pairing required. Earl grey brings the deep malty base of black tea which paired with a further ingredient we had in mind. As the patron of the National Hedgelaying Society, Charles has been involved in preserving the hedgerows of Britain. To honor his contribution to this we included hawthorn berries and blackcurrant seed oil, these tangy dark fruits intertwine with the black tea to produce beautiful fruity base notes. We then read about Charles’ favourite breakfast, a simple meal of two plums. This was the final puzzle piece to our recipe; the notes of red berries were interlaced with the sweetness of dried plums to complete the crowning gin.
